Where Should I Repair My Lexus or Toyota in Toronto?

Lexus is a division of Toyota Canada, and the two brands are repaired from much of the same Toyota information. The same certifier also runs both brands' collision centre programs. CSN Avenue holds both certifications at 293 Macpherson Avenue, which gives downtown owners of either brand one certified Lexus body shop and Toyota body shop at the same address.

Who certifies a Lexus or Toyota body shop?

The manufacturer sets the standard and an independent certifier checks it. Toyota Canada's and Lexus Canada's Certified Collision Centre programs are run through Certified Collision Care, an independent third party that certifies shops against the brand's requirements for tools, equipment, training and customer facilities. Certified shops are inspected and recertified every year.

For Lexus, that puts CSN Avenue in Lexus' network of Certified and Recommended Collision Centres. Lexus says its certified technicians follow approved repair methods and have the support and training of the factory, including access to factory repair manuals and bulletins, specifications and measurements. Toyota Canada's certified-shop locator lists us at 293 Macpherson Avenue, and our Toyota Certified Collision Centre page lists the services we offer.

Why do Toyota Safety Sense and Lexus Safety System+ matter in a repair?

Most newer Toyotas have Toyota Safety Sense as standard, and Lexus Safety System+ has been standard across the Lexus lineup since 2020. Both rely mainly on a camera at the top of the windshield and a radar sensor at the front of the car. Several safety features share those inputs, so if one is damaged or stops working, more than one system can be affected.

That's why the electronics get attention from the start. Toyota's Collision Repair Information Bulletin 191 calls for a diagnostic "health check" scan before and after every repair on a vehicle damaged in a collision, because a scan tool is the only way to identify stored fault codes. Damaged parts don't always turn on a warning light, either. Our technicians start every inspection with diagnostic tools, so damage that doesn't show is found and written into the estimate. Calibrating the cameras and sensors is part of the repair, done before the car is handed back. Our post on software and connected features after a repair explains what the final checks look at.

What changes when the damage is in the bumper or the windshield?

Bumper covers and windshields sit in front of the sensors, so Toyota's procedures for both carry sensor-specific rules. On rear bumper covers over the blind spot monitor radar, Toyota's precautions rule out body filler and paint blend lines in the radar's field. A cover with a crack or hole in that zone gets replaced rather than repaired. On newer cars, starting with select 2023 models such as the Prius, Toyota and Lexus began using 77 GHz radar sensors, and Toyota's CRIB 201 sets out bumper repair precautions specific to them. A bumper that looks like a cosmetic job can turn into a parts order once the procedure is checked.

When we replace a windshield, we recalibrate the forward camera so features like automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning work as designed. Toyota also notes that the black border on non-genuine glass may keep the camera from seeing through it properly, which is one reason access to genuine manufacturer parts matters on these cars. Our services page lists glass and the rest of the repair work we do.

What does a Lexus or Toyota repair look like at CSN Avenue?

Getting the estimate is easy to fit around a downtown day. Our damage appraisers do curbside estimates at the shop, and our mobile estimating service can come to you instead. Once the car is on our floor, it's taken apart so the estimate covers what's behind the panels. Structural damage is measured on our Car-O-Liner system against the factory measurements in Toyota's and Lexus' repair information. Paint is matched with AkzoNobel's Automatchic tool before the car goes into one of our two downdraft spray booths.

We'll arrange your rental, and you can pick it up here at the shop. If you'd rather drop the car off, we can give you a lift home and pick you up when it's ready. The work carries a National Lifetime Warranty for as long as you own the car, and our facility page shows the equipment.

Can a body shop repair a Lexus or Toyota hybrid safely?

Yes, when the work follows Toyota's procedures for that model. Those procedures cover disabling the high-voltage system before work near it, and that step can call for a scan tool and a high-voltage meter.

Do I have to take my Lexus or Toyota to the dealer for body repair?

No. Toyota Canada tells owners it is their right to choose the collision repair facility for their Toyota. Lexus Canada's advice is to have repairs done at a Lexus Certified Collision Centre or one recommended by Lexus, and CSN Avenue is in that network.

Lexus Downtown and Downtown Toyota are both on our partners page, and working closely with our Lexus dealership partner means any mechanical sublets a repair needs go smoothly.

Questions we hear a lot

Is a Lexus more expensive to repair than a Toyota?

It depends on the car and the damage. Both brands work from the same family of repair information, so the process is much the same. What moves the estimate is the parts, the sensors behind the damaged panel and the paint. Your estimate gives a detailed breakdown of the parts and labour the repair needs.

Do you repair Toyota trucks and SUVs?

Yes. Our technicians have completed Toyota's training for its models, from compact cars to full-size SUVs and trucks.

I'm in the west end. Is there a closer option?

For a Toyota, yes. CSN 427 Auto, at 395 Evans Avenue in Etobicoke, is also a Toyota Certified Collision Centre. Lexus certified repairs stay here at CSN Avenue.
